Sure, it’s July, but what better time than now to take charge and go for what you want. I’ve always loved decorating, but up until last year, it was always just a hobby. I loved decorating my own home and loved sharing the before and after on Instagram and Facebook. I never thought it could be anything more until I started Real Estate. After staging a few clients’ homes, I realized how much I really loved interior design and the wheels starting turning. I looked into doing home staging, but the overhead costs were just too much and not something I wanted to commit myself to. With that idea crossed off, I just went back to decorating my own home, and helping friends here and there with any of their design questions.
I continued posting my DIY and design projects, and by luck, an old friend who followed my page, reached out with a wonderful opportunity to partner up and help his company with their fix and flip homes. It’s been so much fun creating mood boards, picking out tiles, fixtures, paint colors and exploring different styles that normally wouldn’t work in my own home. My friend has been awesome and trusting in my vision, but I knew if I wanted more future clients, I would need to be able to get my vision on paper and start building a portfolio to show range of style.
I reached out to friends who have hired Interior Designers and asked them about costs, what their presentations looked like, expectations and process. From there, I did a crash course and relearned Photoshop, learned how to do basic 3D design in a new software program, and obtained my first few trial clients.
So how do you get more clients? Besides word of mouth, Instagram page, and some pure luck? An actual website seemed like the next best answer.
