Yesterday, I hosted my first Make & Mingle craft event. It was such a fun event, and it was great meeting some new friends and new neighbors. As we went around the room introducing ourselves, we were all connected in some way or another. Here are some photos & video of the event. Scroll down for directions & materials used.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Paper Napkins (Purchased from Home Goods & Dollar Tree)
Paint Brush
Scissors
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Prime shells with a thin coat of white acrylic paint. This will keep imperfections in color from showing through the napkin.
2. Squeeze a small amount of Mod Podge onto paper plate.
3. Separate Napkin layers (2-3 layers). Keep the printed layer only.
4. Cut out desired shapes, or you can use entire napkin.
5. Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the pot.
6. Press the napkin onto the pot.
7. Carefully apply more Mod Podge on top of the design.
8. Using a small amount of gold paint, trace the outline of your shell.
9. Let it dry for 20 minutes and you’re done!
I forgot to take a video of me making the seashells, but I have this video of a decoupage flower pot. While this isn’t the exact craft, the concept is the same. You can decoupage anything! For the oyster shells, just make sure to prime the inside of the shell first to cover any imperfections in color. This way it won’t show through your napkin. Once you’ve finished applying your pattern, outline the shell in gold paint to give it that finishing touch!
